IMPORTANT INFO

There are some situations where additional cost and time may be incurred. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Deciding to change from a plain background to a detailed one
  • Adding another character to a scene
  • Book illustrations, book covers, characters intended to be shown in a book, or any work intended for print or other commercial use incurs  an additional commercial usage license fee.
  • IMPORTANT: Usage license does not mean full image copyright. Copyright is ownership; licensing is permission, allowing the creator to control how their work is used and earn recurring revenue, whereas buying copyright (a full buyout) transfers all control and is much more expensive. If you want to purchase the full copyright to the image/work, please contact me.
  • Book illustration licensing tiers available:
    • 5 years
    • 10 years
    • indefinite.

 Next steps

Here's the typical process involved:

  1. You send me your brief for the image/s
    • Make sure you provide a detailed brief of EVERYTHING relating to the character. This also includes the size of the image you need.
    • The more information you provide the better.
    • You can also send me any reference images that you have collected.
  2. I will then produce a series of concept images, around 3 - 6. These are pretty quick, and often look basic, designed to be a starting point, and to agree the base idea of your brief.
  3. Once you have approved a concept version, I will begin to refine the line-art of that concept. This will make it easier to see the full details of what the image will look like, minus the colour. Alternatively, we go back to Step 2 and I do additional concept ideas, if none have hit the mark.
  4. When a refined concept line-art has been approved, I will double check that all details provided are correct and have not changed since Step 1.
  5. I then start the rendering process. You can find examples of this in my process images folder, or on most images found in my portfolio. It starts with blocking in the colours.
  6. I will send regular progress updates of the image. This will often be a link for Dropbox, OneDrive etc. So if something is off, or something catches your attention, this is the time to notify me, so I can address it before doing too much work in the wrong direction.
  7. Once the image is fully rendered, we will go over the image and discuss any final corrections that may be needed.
  8. I will then do the final pass on the image. This consists of final detail, sharpening, any final colour tweaks, etc.
  9. I will send you the final image, at a lower resolution, for the final checks.
  10. Once both our checks are finished and the image is mutually agreed as 'completed', I will invoice you. Full payment is required before I provide the full resolution image.
